Mustang Mission Statement
The Joseph Neal STEAM Academy seeks to provide an enriching learning environment where students are immersed in an inquiry-based, authentic STEAM curriculum that challenges their 21st century critical thinking and problem solving skills. We provide each student at Joseph Neal STEAM Academy with interdisciplinary opportunities in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. With the support of our families, community experts, and cultural institutions, Joseph Neal will foster a safe and secure atmosphere that embraces curiosity, ingenuity, responsibility, and endurance.
School Visitation
All visitors are welcome and must sign in (using their driver’s license/I.D.) at the computer in the front office and wear the printed visitor’s badge while on campus. This badge must be visible at all times. Persons who wish to visit a classroom must make PRIOR arrangements with the teacher and be approved by administration. If you are a frequent (4 or more times per month) visitor/volunteer, you must obtain the official CCSD Volunteer Badge and undergo a background check (see next section - below). Our responsibility for the safety of hundreds of students is taken very seriously. The security doors near the office will be locked at all times. The door to the main office will remain locked at all times. Press the buzzer and a staff member will allow you to enter. Parents will not be permitted to enter the building through the great room doors or cafeteria on the playground.
Parent Volunteer Information
All guidance below is in reference to the Clark County School District Regulation 4100:
RELATIONSHIPS, INTERACTIONS, AND COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN DISTRICT
EMPLOYEES OR REPRESENTATIVES/VOLUNTEERS AND STUDENTS.
A “volunteer” is any person who, without compensation, works at, assists with, or oversees any activity or event conducted or sponsored by a public school during or outside of school hours. This includes a coach, assistant coach, director of in-school or extracurricular activities, and chaperones.
All volunteers who are likely to have unsupervised contact with students must be issued a CCSD badge before beginning their service, inclusive of participating in any CCSD activity, event, program, or other business, or contacting, interacting, or communicating with any student. The CCSD-issued badge must be worn at all times while on CCSD property and while participating in CCSD activities, events, programs, or other business. All volunteers who will never have unsupervised contact with students are not required to go through a background check.
Volunteer activities can include but are not limited to the following:

Reading with individual students regularly

Supporting schools during recess, lunchtime, or a field trip

Mentorship for workforce development

Tutoring and classroom support

Helping students obtain free books on the CCSD Book Bus

Supporting CCSD employee recognition events

Providing your career expertise at a career fair

Volunteering at CCSD events, such as our employee 5K walk/race

Helping to maintain school gardens

Reviewing scholarship applications

Participating in programs such as Principal for a Day and PAYBAC (Professional and Youth Building a Commitment)
